Blooms from Beyond - Bricklink Building Competition Submission

Using long-range scanners and sensors, our space explorers discovered something unusual. The desert planet Arid-08 was… hollow. How strange! To uncover what was really going on, the exploration team drilled a hole to investigate further—for their technology could only reveal so much.

What did they discover?

To survive the extremely high temperatures during the day and the deathly cold nights, these plants (now dubbed Aridpods) do most of their growing underground. The bulb of this strange plant hides a glowing seed pod. To reach the cavernous space below, the plant is equipped with a drill-like growth at the base of the bulb, allowing it to break through the hard, sand-like soil and burrow deep beneath the surface.

There, the seed pod stays safe and warm in its black cocoon (as without the absence of the sun on this planet, it is frightfully cold). Once the seed pod matures, it breaks free and takes the place of the adult plant, continuing the cycle. To prevent competition, the plant also sprays its brown seeds, launching them as far as possible to spread across the planet.

It may seem that planet Arid-08 is home to a barren wasteland, but surprisingly, its true beauty and wonder lie below the surface.

You’re a botanist aboard an interstellar exploration ship that has just landed on a planet unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Strange blooms rise from the ground, unfamiliar vines sprawl across the terrain, and every horizon promises new botanical mysteries waiting to be explored.

What grows in its forests, grasslands, deserts, tundra, and mountains is yours to imagine. Choose one of these five extraterrestrial ecosystems and document your discoveries using LEGO® elements.

Pictured: Two space explorers from the expedition stand on the barren landscape of Arid-08. One looks down into the freshly dug hole, peering through it to see his teammate below. Beside him stands a fully grown Aridpod, and next to it, a smaller, younger version. Below, his teammate has pried open the black bulb of the Aridpod and gazes in amazement at the glowing seed pod inside—protected from the elements, and revealing that there is far more to this planet than meets the eye.

Fanged Flower Beetle

Fruhstorferia dohertyi

I found this interesting creature and decided to build it. It helped me practice building curved surfaces and allowed me to play around with different LEGO parts in Studio.

Stylized Bird

Inspired by the LEGO® Creator 3in1 Wild Animals: Tropical Toucan (31173) building set

Can a match box? No, but a pelly can! The idea came from the two yellow shells I had from the LEGO Petite Sunny Bouquet set. They looked so much like a beak that I decided to make a bird out of it, leading to this pelican-duck hybird!

Rendered and built in Studio.

Other builds!

These are other builds that I have done, for fun!

These are quick builds that I've done to practice on my LEGO building skills (using the parts I have, hence the colour mismatch)

Building Big Benny - The Story

Featuring little Benny, who gets a little too excited...

While building the Up-Scaled Blue Astronaut Minifigure, I thought it would be fun to construct a little story on what my little Benny gets up to as I'm building it!
